Health initiatives promote breastfeeding in Argentina and Peru

Health authorities in Argentina and Peru are conducting initiatives to promote breastfeeding. In Jujuy, Argentina, the Ministry of Health launched the Provincial Breastfeeding Network. This strategy, part of the LACTA program, aims to strengthen breastfeeding support through a gender and rights perspective. Health Minister José Manzur noted that the province is also working toward establishing a Human Milk Bank by the end of the year.

In Chiclayo, Peru, Hospital Las Mercedes has begun activities for World Breastfeeding Week. The hospital, which holds the Mother and Child Friendly Hospital certification, is hosting information fairs and sensitization activities. Medical experts highlighted that breastfeeding reduces risks of infectious diseases, diabetes, and obesity, while also offering economic and environmental benefits. These local efforts align with the global goal to increase breastfeeding rates from 47% to 60% by 2030.
