Health ministers inspect hospitals in Bangladesh and India

Health officials in Bangladesh and India have conducted inspections of regional hospitals, identifying issues with medicine availability and infrastructure utilization.

In Bangladesh, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhaowat Hossain visited the Badalgachhi Upazila Health Complex. During the visit, he discovered that the antibiotic Azithromycin had not been provided to patients for over a month despite being in stock. He indicated that action would be taken against the hospital storekeeper following a review in Dhaka. The Minister also announced plans to upgrade the facility to 151 beds and a new nine-story building, alongside a broader national plan to recruit 41,390 health workers and 2,500 nurses this year.

In India, West Bengal Health Minister Sharad Mukherjee inspected the Katwa Sub-divisional Hospital in Purba Bardhaman. He noted that a completed four-story, 100-bed unit remained unused, alleging that oxygen lines had been disconnected. The Minister ordered the immediate activation of the unit and discussed addressing shortages in pediatrics, radiology, and surgery by potentially recruiting qualified doctors from the private sector.
