Health ministries in Liberia and Sierra Leone launch new medical protocols and awareness campaigns
In Liberia, the Ministry of Health has launched a revised national protocol for managing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) to coincide with World PPH Day. The initiative includes the introduction of locally modeled calibrated drapes designed to improve the detection and management of excessive bleeding following childbirth. Dr. Teyah Sackie Moore, Assistant Minister for Curative Services, stated that the revised guidance aims to strengthen the healthcare system's capacity to prevent and manage maternal deaths through evidence-based interventions.
In Sierra Leone, health officials and partners, including the National Public Health Agency and the World Health Organization, conducted a health walk in Freetown to raise awareness about meningitis. Ahead of World Meningitis Day, the campaign focused on educating the public about symptoms such as high fever, stiff neck, and confusion, while emphasizing the importance of vaccination and early medical intervention to manage the infection.
