Liberia healthcare infrastructure development

Liberia is working to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure through equipment donations, regulatory decentralization, and legislative assessments.

In early September 2026, Partners In Health Liberia donated US$71,000 worth of medical equipment, including endoscopes and ultrasound machines, to the James Jenkins Dossen Memorial Hospital. This allows for local diagnosis of conditions that previously required travel to Monrovia. Concurrently, the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) announced plans to extend medicine regulation to all 15 counties by early 2027 and opened a pharmaceutical waste disposal site in Margibi County.

By mid-September 2026, the focus shifted toward fiscal planning and specialized care. A Joint Legislative Committee on Health began a nationwide assessment of government health facilities to inform the 2027 national budget, investigating issues such as staffing, funding, and medical supplies. Additionally, Church Aid Inc. donated hearing screening equipment to the Liberia Government Hospital in Buchanan to expand specialized diagnostic capacity.
