Health officials in La Romana urge precautions amid increased rainfall

Dr. Carmen Jiménez, the provincial director of Public Health in La Romana, has issued a call for preventive measures following an increase in rainfall in the region. The directive aims to protect the population from epidemiological outbreaks.

Citizens are urged to eliminate breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito to prevent the spread of dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. Recommended actions include cleaning yards, removing containers that collect stagnant water, and ensuring water storage tanks are hermetically sealed. Health officials also suggested applying liquid chlorine to the internal walls of water containers above the water level to prevent mosquito egg laying.

Additionally, residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains to reduce the risk of accidents and exposure to contaminated water, which can transmit leptospirosis and skin conditions.
