Health risks of excessive vitamin and supplement use

Increased interest in vitamins and dietary supplements during seasonal transitions has raised concerns regarding their necessity and the risks of improper use. Experts, including pharmaceutical doctor Kristina Minić, highlight the dangers of self-prescribing supplements and the potential hazards of purchasing products through online channels.

Excessive intake of certain vitamins can lead to adverse health effects. For instance, overconsumption of Vitamin C may cause digestive issues such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, and can increase the risk of kidney stones. While excessive Vitamin B1 (thiamine) intake is rare, megadoses may result in skin rashes, itching, and digestive discomfort.
