Health studies highlight delays in medical care and undiagnosed hypertension

Recent research highlights significant challenges in healthcare access and disease awareness. A study conducted by The Health Foundation and Ipsos in the United Kingdom found that 48% of respondents delayed or avoided contacting their personal doctor due to health issues in the past year. Additionally, 27% of those individuals attempted to resolve their problems independently or waited for symptoms to manifest.

In a separate study published in BMJ Public Health involving over 1.4 million adults in England, researchers found that nearly 59% of participants with hypertension were unaware of their condition. The study noted that hypertension often develops without obvious symptoms, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and dementia. Risk factors identified included higher body mass index, smoking, alcohol consumption, and family history of heart disease. The findings emphasize the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring and lifestyle interventions such as reduced salt intake and increased physical activity.
