Health trends in Romania show rising hospitalizations and hepatitis A outbreaks

Health authorities in Romania are monitoring varying respiratory and viral trends across different counties. In Bihor, reported cases of acute upper respiratory infections decreased by 13.3% during the week of October 19–25, falling to 5,508 cases. However, hospitalizations for these conditions rose by 32.6%, increasing from 46 to 61 patients. Pneumonia cases remain high and stable, with 1,323 cases reported in the latest week, representing a nearly 50% increase compared to the start of the season.

In Brașov, medical authorities are managing an increase in Hepatitis A cases. The county has recorded eight active outbreaks, with 283 cases identified in the third quarter. Currently, 42 patients are receiving care at the Brașov Infectious Diseases Hospital, including 22 children and 20 adults. To prevent overcrowding, officials are considering transferring patients to other medical units in Brașov or Covasna counties.
