Health warnings issued in Vietnam amid reports of medical fraud
Medical professionals in Vietnam are warning against complacency regarding health screenings, noting that many patients remain unaware of serious conditions until symptoms become severe. Associate Professor Nguyen Lan Hieu of Hanoi Medical University Hospital reported frequent cases where patients, feeling healthy, were diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, or carotid artery stenosis during routine check-ups.
Separately, investigations have highlighted fraudulent practices at the Thai Ha General Clinic in Hanoi. The clinic has been accused of exaggerating minor conditions, such as turning common infections into serious sexually transmitted diseases, to pressure patients into expensive, multi-session treatment plans and unverified herbal medicine packages.
