Healthcare mobility agreement between Puglia and Basilicata faces crisis

The healthcare mobility agreement between the Puglia and Basilicata regions is facing significant challenges. Miulli Hospital in Acquaviva delle Fonti has blocked scheduled surgical admissions for patients from Basilicata following a circular from the Puglia Region.

Basilicata regional councilor Giovanni Vizziello attributed the crisis to a budgetary error. He stated that the exclusion of high-complexity interventions from the spending cap—a move criticized by the Ministry of Health—led to the premature exhaustion of the budget allocated for Basilicata patients receiving care in Puglia. Vizziello has called for new funding to allow patients, particularly those from the province of Matera, to proceed with their scheduled medical procedures.
