Healthcare services face crisis in Montedoro and Taranto
Healthcare services in parts of Italy are facing significant strain due to staffing shortages and administrative decisions. In Montedoro, Mayor Renzo Bufalino has protested a decree regarding Territorial Functional Aggregations that threatens to suppress local medical guards. The Mayor noted that the lack of doctors is being addressed with claims that recruitment competitions have been banned, leaving elderly populations in internal areas without nearby medical assistance.
Simultaneously, in Taranto, the President of the Order of Nursing Professions (OPI), Pierpaolo Volpe, has raised alarms regarding the unsustainable state of provincial healthcare. Volpe cited a hiring freeze and a lack of information concerning the renewal of fixed-term nursing contracts. He criticized the Director General of the Taranto ASL, Vito Bavaro, for a perceived lack of dialogue with professional orders, warning that the current situation risks paralyzing hospital and territorial assistance and compromising patient safety.
