Healthcare services report high volumes and staffing challenges in Bosnia and Croatia

Healthcare facilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia are reporting varying operational statuses and staffing challenges. In the Sarajevo Canton Health Center, 68,212 patient visits and 319,004 health services were recorded during the week of August 24–30, 2026. The highest volume of services was provided by laboratory diagnostics, which performed 174,169 analyses, followed by family medicine.

In Croatia, the Koprivnica-Križevci County is facing pediatric staffing issues. Due to annual leave and a general shortage of specialists across the country, children in Koprivnica must travel to Đurđevac for medical examinations. While the public health network requires eight pediatric teams for the region, only six are currently active. Local health center director Željka Fruk noted that while current teams are staffed by specialists, long-term personnel sustainability remains a challenge due to the national shortage of pediatricians.
