Healthcare service expansion and staffing in Adriatic

Overview

Healthcare services in the Adriatic region continue to address high demand and infrastructure needs through vehicle acquisitions and staffing management. In the Sarajevo Canton, health centers recorded 68,212 patient visits and 319,004 health services during the week of August 24–30, 2026, with laboratory diagnostics performing 174,169 analyses.

Staffing shortages persist in Croatia’s Koprivnica-Križevci County. Due to annual leave and a national shortage of specialists, the region is operating with only six of the eight required pediatric teams, forcing some children to travel to Đurđevac for examinations. Local director Željka Fruk noted that while current teams are staffed by specialists, “long-term personnel sustainability remains a challenge due to the national shortage of pediatricians.”

Efforts to improve medical transport and service quality have led to recent fleet expansions. In Prnjavor, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the local Health Center added an ambulance purchased with institutional funds and an off-road vehicle donated by Leburić komerc. In Croatia, the Emergency Medical Institute of Varaždin County invested over 762,955 euros in five new vehicles for sanitary transport and emergency assistance. These vehicles, featuring active air suspension to enhance patient comfort, will serve Varaždin, Ludbreg, Novi Marof, and Ivanec.
