Heart disease prevention emphasized by Turkish health experts
Health experts in Turkey are emphasizing the importance of primary prevention to combat heart disease, which remains a leading cause of death both nationally and globally. Dr. Mehmet Çelebi, a cardiology specialist at Yalvaç State Hospital, noted that despite advancements in medical technology and healthcare systems, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the most effective way to prevent cardiovascular issues before they arise.
Key risk factors identified include hypertension, diabetes, high LDL cholesterol, smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, unhealthy nutrition, and chronic stress. To mitigate these risks, health officials recommend several lifestyle adjustments, such as regular monitoring of blood pressure and blood sugar, maintaining an ideal body weight, limiting alcohol consumption, ensuring regular sleep, and avoiding tobacco products.
In Nazilli, the District Health Directorate conducted public awareness activities to promote these preventive measures. Officials encouraged citizens to undergo regular cardiovascular risk assessments with family physicians and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or palpitations occur.
