Cardiovascular disease mortality in Turkey

Overview

Medical experts and the Turkish Society of Cardiology have issued warnings regarding the high mortality rates associated with cardiovascular diseases in Turkey. Data from 2025 indicates that these diseases account for approximately 34.7% of all deaths in the country, totaling roughly 171,000 annual deaths. Experts noted a trend where heart attacks occur approximately 10 years earlier in Turkey than the European average, with the proportion of patients under age 40 increasing to 15-20%.

In response, health professionals and local authorities have emphasized primary prevention through lifestyle modifications. Recommendations include regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, alongside maintaining a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and avoiding tobacco. Local initiatives, such as those conducted by the Nazilli District Health Directorate, have focused on public awareness and encouraging citizens to undergo regular risk assessments with family physicians.
