KBO Cancels All Games on May 5‑6 Amid Record Heat Wave

The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) held an emergency meeting on 6 May and decided to cancel every KBO League and Futures League game scheduled for 5 May and 6 May because of a nationwide record‑breaking heat wave. The decision was driven by safety concerns for fans and players after a spectator fainted and 25 people at the SSG Landers vs LG Twins match required medical attention, two of them seriously ill.

The KBO cited the new “extreme heat warning”—issued when the daily heat index is expected to exceed 38 °C—and applied its revised heat‑response protocol, which allows games to be postponed or cancelled once the warning is in effect. The cancellations brought the total number of heat‑related forfeited games to 15, later rising to 30 after additional weekend matches were called off. The league plans to resume play on 11 May, with start times shifted to 19:00 (and later for some weekend games) and the introduction of cooling breaks and extended inning‑change intervals to protect participants.

Other Korean sports, including the K‑League football competition, also adjusted kickoff times in response to the extreme temperatures.
