Heating infrastructure expansion projects begin in Germany
Various regional heating projects are advancing across Germany to improve local energy supplies. In Handschuhsheim, Stadtwerke Heidelberg has announced the expansion of its district heating network. A preliminary construction phase is scheduled to begin in November 2026 on Zeppelinstraße, with full-scale expansion expected to start in March 2027. The utility provider is hosting informational webinars and public meetings to assist property owners with connection planning and federal subsidy applications.
In Ursensollen, construction has commenced on a new heating plant designed to secure local heating supply for Ursensollen and Hohenkemnath. The facility will initially feature an 800 kW wood chip boiler, with plans to eventually expand to three boilers of the same capacity. The project utilizes locally available renewable fuel and is expected to serve approximately 150 customers. The plant is slated for commissioning in early 2027.
