Heatwave in France’s Pyrénées‑Orientales and sunny forecast for Mauritius

The French department of Pyrénées‑Orientales is expected to experience a severe heatwave on Monday, July 6, 2026, with daytime temperatures reaching 35‑39 °C in the lowlands and night‑time lows staying unusually high, up to 31 °C along the coast – a record‑breaking level for a French summer night. Winds will be light and the sea will remain calm.

In Mauritius, the next 24 hours will be largely sunny with light winds from the southeast shifting south in the evening. Temperatures will peak at 21‑24 °C inland and 26‑29 °C on the coast, while night‑time lows fall to 14‑17 °C in the hills and 19‑21 °C along the shoreline. Marine conditions will deteriorate overnight with waves up to 2.5 m, prompting a warning against deep‑sea outings. A cooler, windier period is forecast to begin early next week as a frontal system approaches.

Both regions are advising residents to stay aware of the heat‑related health risks in France and the rough sea conditions in Mauritius.
