Heavy Monsoon Rains Disrupt Himachal Pradesh, Blocking Roads and Affecting Power and Water Supplies
Heavy monsoon rains have battered Himachal Pradesh, leaving 102 roads blocked, 11 power distribution transformers out of service and 28 water supply schemes non‑functional. The State Emergency Operation Centre reported that Mandi district was the worst hit with 43 roads closed, followed by Kullu, Shimla, Chamba, Sirmaur and Una. Power outages affected five transformers in Shimla, four in Mandi and two in Chamba, while water schemes were most disrupted in Chamba and Shimla.
Tourists in Shimla enjoyed the misty, cool weather, but residents faced inconvenience as slippery roads, traffic congestion and the risk of landslides and flash floods persisted. The India Meteorological Department warned of continued light to moderate rain with isolated heavy showers and advised people to avoid vulnerable areas. All national highways remain open, and authorities urged commuters to exercise caution while restoration work continues.
