Heavy rain and flood risks forecast for Southwest and Colorado
An active weather pattern is bringing heavy rain and thunderstorm risks across parts of the southern United States through Friday. In the Southwest, moisture is fueling storms across southern New Mexico and West Texas, with potential for heavy rainfall near El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley. Saturated soils have already led to flood advisories, and additional rain could cause rising arroyos and localized flooding on roadways.
In the Colorado region, moisture from Mexico is increasing rain chances, with flash flooding concerns specifically noted for the southern Sangre and eastern Plains. Heavy downpours are expected to continue through Thursday, with a potential for stronger thunderstorms if sunshine breaks through the cloud cover.
Conditions are expected to stabilize by the weekend. In the Southwest, drier air should arrive Saturday, while Colorado is forecasted to see drier and warmer temperatures from Saturday through Monday.
