Heavy rain blocks major highways in Nepal

Continuous heavy rainfall across Nepal has triggered landslides and flooding that blocked key sections of several major highways, including the BP, Kanti, Mechi, Araniko, and Kaligandaki corridors. The Nepal Police reported that roads in seven districts—Sindhupalchok, Ilam, Baglung, Panchthar, Gorkha, Dolakha and Mugu—were either completely shut or restricted to daytime traffic, with night‑time bans imposed on the BP Highway’s Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi stretch and on the Kanti Highway in Makwanpur.

Authorities warned travellers to check current road conditions, noting that mudslides and river overflows continue to pose a high risk of further disruptions.
