Heavy Rain Floods Bhubaneswar, Triggers Statewide Alerts in Odisha

Continuous heavy rainfall that began Wednesday night has left large parts of Bhubaneswar, especially the Saheed Nagar neighbourhood, water‑logged. Roads are submerged and many homes have knee‑deep water, disrupting daily life and damaging furniture and belongings.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed the entire state of Odisha under weather alerts. An orange warning has been issued for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, while a yellow warning covers the remaining 28 districts. A short‑term nowcast warns of thunderstorms and lightning in 13 districts, prompting officials to advise residents to stay indoors and avoid open fields and water bodies. Rainfall is expected to ease on Friday, though alerts will remain in effect for most districts.
