Heavy rain forecast for 13 districts in Tamil Nadu through June 18

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a heavy‑rain alert for Tamil Nadu, covering 13 districts—including Theni, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Tiruchirappalli and Perambalur—over the next two days, with the most intense showers expected on June 16 and 17. The forecast mentions thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of 40‑50 km/h, especially in Theni and parts of the Western Ghats. Temperatures in Chennai and the state's interior are projected to remain high, around 39‑40 °C, though a slight dip in maximum temperatures is expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Authorities have warned residents in low‑lying areas to stay alert for water‑logging and possible landslides, urging them to avoid unnecessary travel and follow updates from local administrations.
