Heavy rain hits northern Vietnam amid soaring temperatures elsewhere

A low‑pressure system from China brought widespread heavy rain to the mountainous areas of northern Vietnam on 5‑6 June, with recorded totals of 90‑127 mm in provinces such as Lào Cai, Phú Thọ, Thái Nguyên, Quảng Ninh and Hà Nội. The downpours caused strong gusts, lightning, hail and the risk of flash floods, landslides and damage to roofs and trees in low‑lying valleys.

At the same time, central, highland and southern regions experienced intense heat, with temperatures reaching 35‑38 °C in places like Thanh Hóa, Gia Lai and the Mekong Delta. Forecasts predict continued rain in the north for the next few days and persistent hot, sunny conditions in the rest of the country, along with possible tornadoes and strong winds along the coast.

Authorities warned of localized flooding, especially in urban low‑lying areas, and urged residents to stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
