Heavy rain in Valdivia, Chile damages 41 homes and displaces 103 people

The municipal government of Valdivia reported that a recent frontal system caused severe rainfall, affecting 41 homes and displacing 103 residents. Most properties suffered minor water intrusion, but four suffered major damage and one coastal house was declared uninhabitable. Landslides were reported along the vulnerable coastal border, and urban neighborhoods such as Barrios Bajos and Beneficencia experienced significant flooding.

Valdivia’s fire department deployed about 150 volunteers from ten local companies, while the Carabineros urged residents to exercise extreme caution while driving in the rain. Authorities are focusing on recovery efforts and have warned that another weaker frontal system is expected, keeping the risk of mass landslides high due to saturated soils.
