On the evening of 31 July 2026, a short‑duration downpour delivered more than 115 mm of rain in Long Biên, Hanoi. The flooding coincided with peak‑hour traffic, causing prolonged congestion at the affected sites. Authorities noted that nearby areas covered by emergency drainage projects (e.g., Đại Lộ Thăng Long, Mỹ Đình, and other urban zones) remained unaffected. The incident underscores ongoing drainage challenges in Hanoi, prompting the municipal government to accelerate a set of ten emergency works—including five drainage and five reservoir projects—budgeted at roughly VND 5.6 trillion and slated for completion before the 2026 rainy season.
