India's IMD issues heavy rain and storm warnings for dozens of states

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an extensive weather alert indicating heavy rain, thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 80 km/h across many states. The bulletin warned that the next 14 hours could bring severe conditions in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand and Bihar.

The agency highlighted risks of flooding, water‑logging, landslides and disruption to travel. Residents in low‑lying and coastal districts were urged to avoid unnecessary trips, keep umbrellas or raincoats handy, and follow local authorities’ instructions to mitigate damage.
