Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Odisha as Low‑Pressure System Develops

India’s Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that a fresh low‑pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal will bring heavy to very heavy rain to Odisha for four days, from Saturday through Tuesday. Recorded rainfall in the 24‑hour period ending 8:30 am on Friday reached 120 mm at Hatadihi and 90 mm at Bahanaga.

The IMD forecast intense rain in districts including Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj and others, with wind speeds of 40‑50 km/h and gusts up to 60 km/h along the coast. Sea conditions are expected to be rough to very rough, and fishermen have been advised to stay ashore until Monday. The system may also affect the catchment areas of the Brahmani, Baitarani, Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga and Mahanadi rivers.
