Heavy rainfall recorded in Senegal and Tunisia

Heavy rainfall and storm systems have been recorded across parts of Senegal and Tunisia.

In Senegal, the National Agency for Aeronautical and Meteorological Services (ANACIM) reported significant precipitation following a pluvio-stormy system. Ouadiour recorded the highest rainfall at 110 mm, while other areas such as Niakhar (93 mm) and Niaganiao (85 mm) also saw high totals. Forecasters indicate that while some regions may experience temporary stability, heavy rains are expected to continue, particularly in the southern regions including Casamance and Kolda.

In Tunisia, the National Institute of Meteorology (INM) reported intense thunderstorms affecting the western highlands. The Kasserine district saw the highest levels, with Kasserine Gare recording 39 mm. The Kef governorate also experienced heavy showers and local hail, with Kalaat Khasba recording 29 mm. These rains are expected to recharge groundwater levels before a subsequent rise in temperatures caused by Saharan air masses.
