Heavy rainfall triggers flooding in Honduras and Peru

Heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding in parts of Honduras and Peru, affecting numerous families and homes.

In Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Honduras, the Blanco River overflowed following intense precipitation in mountainous areas. Between 40 and 50 families have been affected, with water levels reaching approximately one meter in some sectors, causing material damage to residences. Response teams are currently evaluating the extent of the damage while monitoring local river systems for further rises in water levels.

In the San Martín region of Peru, specifically in the Campanilla district, torrential rains lasting over eight hours caused the Guinguillo creek to overflow. This event affected 52 homes and forced approximately 20 families to seek temporary shelter in local churches and municipal buildings. The flooding caused sewage and water systems to collapse and washed away animals and debris. Local authorities and Civil Defense are coordinating relief efforts, with the Army expected to assist in clearing obstructed channels.
