Thailand issues heavy rain and flash flood warnings
The Thai Meteorological Department and the National Water Resources Office have issued warnings regarding heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple regions of Thailand. From September 8 to 13, increased precipitation is expected, beginning in the Northeast before spreading to other regions. This weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough passing through the North, Upper Central, and Northeast regions, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon.
Authorities have warned of risks including flash floods, forest runoff, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Specific provinces in the North, Northeast, and East are at high risk. Between September 12 and 13, a high-pressure system from China is expected to move into the upper North and Northeast, shifting the monsoon trough toward the lower Central region, the East, and Bangkok, potentially increasing rainfall in those areas.
Additionally, a low-pressure cell near the Philippines is projected to potentially intensify into a tropical cyclone and move into the central South China Sea between September 11 and 13. Residents are advised to avoid travel through flood-prone routes and monitor official updates.
