Heavy rains cause flooding and infrastructure alerts across Vietnam

On June 16‑17, extensive rainfall hit southern Vietnam, producing localized flooding in Ho Chi Minh City, especially in low‑lying districts to the east and south. A tornado in Dong Nai province caused additional damage, prompting authorities to discuss long‑term solutions for urban water‑logging.

At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Waterworks Management Agency issued a directive for northern Vietnam’s mountainous and mid‑land regions. Forecasts warned of 60‑120 mm of rain, with isolated amounts exceeding 250 mm, raising flood and dam‑safety concerns. The agency ordered 24‑hour monitoring, inspections of reservoirs and irrigation works, early‑warning alerts for residents, and emergency water‑storage measures to mitigate the expected heavy rain.
