Heavy rains cause road closures in Mérida, Venezuela
Intense rainfall in the state of Mérida has caused the collapse of access routes in the Libertador municipality, leaving several localities isolated. The El Rincón sector has been most severely affected following the overflow of a nearby stream, which flooded public roads and halted vehicular traffic.
The increase in water flow caused a significant accumulation of sediment and rock material on main roads, blocking transit for residents, cargo vehicles, and public transportation. Community spokespersons have issued an emergency request to regional authorities for the deployment of heavy machinery to remove mud and debris and restore connectivity to the area.
Separately, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh) has forecasted continued rain and electrical discharges across various regions of Venezuela, including the Andes, Zulia, and the Llanos, as well as parts of Bolívar and Amazonas.
