Heavy rains flood Ameca and topple trees and power lines in Mexico City

Intense rainfall over the weekend caused flooding in the municipality of Ameca, Jalisco, inundating streets and entering 34 homes in the neighborhoods of Santa Cecilia and San Isidro. State and municipal civil‑protection units, the National Defense Secretariat's DN‑III‑E plan, the National Guard and local DIF officials deployed pumps, motor‑barges and manpower, reporting that cleanup and aid work was about 85 % complete.

In Mexico City, strong winds accompanying the rain knocked down dozens of trees and triggered a micro‑storm that brought down an electricity pole in the Senderos de Oriente area, causing a domino effect that toppled ten additional concrete poles and left more than 300 customers without power for several hours. Similar tree‑fall incidents were recorded in the boroughs of Cuajimalpa, Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez and Iztapalapa, but no injuries were reported. Emergency services responded to each incident, clearing debris and restoring services.

Authorities continue to monitor vulnerable zones and urge residents to avoid flooded areas, report hazards and stay informed through official channels.
