Heavy rains in State of Mexico flood streets and halt metro service

Intense rainfall across the eastern part of the State of Mexico on Tuesday caused widespread flooding in the municipalities of Los Reyes La Paz, Chalco and Ixtapaluca. In Los Reyes La Paz, water inundated the metro terminal, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded for more than four hours as no buses or trains could operate. The Mexico City Metro reduced train speeds on Line A as a safety measure.

The heavy downpours also swamped the Mexico‑Texcoco highway near the Santa Martha metro station and flooded local markets. Authorities from the State of Mexico and the municipal civil‑protection agencies activated a yellow flood alert for several boroughs of Mexico City, including Iztapalapa, Xochimilco, Coyoacán, Tlalpan, Milpa Alta and Tláhuac, and issued safety recommendations to residents.

Emergency services remain on the scene, monitoring critical water levels and working to restore normal transport operations as the water recedes.
