Heavy Rains Prompt Road Closure in Tlaxcala and Pavement Damage in Los Reyes La Paz

The National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP), the State Environmental Secretariat (SMA) and the Public Safety Secretariat (SSC) have closed the perimeter road of Parque Nacional La Malinche between Altamira (Huamantla) and the IMSS Malintzi vacation center. The closure follows overflow of a drainage channel in the Barranca del Madroño area after intense rainfall, which caused road damage and posed a safety risk. Officials will inspect the segment and reopen it when conditions are safe.

In the municipality of Los Reyes La Paz, residents reported that recently paved streets have been severely damaged by the same rains. Water runoff has led to cracks, potholes and sections that are practically impassable. The community has asked municipal authorities to conduct a technical review, identify the causes, and require the responsible contractors to repair the roads at no cost to residents.
