Heavy rains trigger floods, fallen trees and child rescue in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico

The State Civil Protection Coordination reported that intense rainfall over the past 24 hours caused widespread flooding, fallen trees and infrastructure damage across Ciudad Juárez and several other municipalities in Chihuahua. In Ciudad Juárez officials responded to four incidents of trees downed, 11 flood events, the collapse of a billboard panel, two knocked‑over poles, five short‑circuit incidents, as well as the rescue of a vehicle and a stranded automobile. A six‑year‑old boy was rescued from a home with roof damage in the Hidalgo neighborhood and transferred to social services.

Impacted neighborhoods include Jardines del Lago, Lucio Cabañas, Santa Rosa, Reginaldo Kluche, Nuevo Milenio, Fernández and El Chamizal. Additional reports came from Chihuahua city, Manuel Benavides, Camargo, Meoqui and Jiménez, where the highest rainfall totals were recorded (56 mm in Jiménez). Authorities warned that a seasonal frontal system over the northern border will continue to bring moderate to strong rains in the Sierra Tarahumara and scattered showers elsewhere, with possible hail, strong gusts exceeding 45 km/h and further lightning activity.
