Heavy traffic snarls hit Kifisos and Attiki Odos in Athens

On the morning of 15 June 2026, drivers in the Athens metropolitan area faced severe congestion on major routes. The Kifisos corridor was placed under a “red” status, with traffic moving at low speeds and queues forming on both north‑bound and south‑bound lanes. Delays of 25‑30 minutes were recorded on the Attiki Odos segment heading to the airport between the Fyli and Kifisia interchanges, and shorter delays of 5‑10 minutes were noted on the Eleusina‑bound lane via the Peripheral Mount Parnitha road.

Additional bottlenecks were reported on the Alexandras and Vasilissis Sofias avenues, the Syngrou Avenue, and the route toward the Piraeus port. Motorists were advised to exercise patience and use alternative routes where possible as traffic pressure was expected to remain high throughout the morning rush hour.
