HeFRA investigates death of woman after C-section at Ridge Hospital
The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has launched an investigation into the death of 31-year-old Theresa Boakye Dapaah following a caesarean section at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, also known as Ridge Hospital. The investigation aims to determine the circumstances of her death and identify any potential breaches in the duty of care.
The probe follows allegations of negligence made by the deceased’s husband, Daniel Ofori-Sarpong. HeFRA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah stated that the agency has engaged hospital management and is awaiting a formal report to proceed.
If the investigation establishes professional misconduct, HeFRA will refer doctors to the Medical and Dental Council and nurses to the Nursing and Midwifery Council for disciplinary action. The agency also intends to examine whether systemic institutional failures contributed to the incident, which could result in sanctions against the facility and mandates for corrective measures.
