Ridge Hospital medical negligence investigation
Overview
Following the death of Theresa Boakye Dua during a scheduled Caesarean section at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) on July 16, 2026, her husband, Daniel Ofori Asante, accused the facility of medical negligence. He described the event as a “horrific ordeal” caused by reckless decisions by medical personnel.
In response to these allegations, the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the death and identify potential breaches in the duty of care. HeFRA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah stated that the agency is engaging hospital management and awaiting a formal report. If professional misconduct is established, HeFRA may refer medical staff to their respective professional councils for disciplinary action and may sanction the hospital for systemic failures.
