Demolition of Bonn's Nordbrücke Begins

The first demolition work on the Nordbrücke in Bonn started on Friday, targeting the deteriorated Vorlandbrücke that connects to the main A565 bridge. The construction firm Hagedorn is carrying out the demolition with excavators equipped with shears and pulverisers, limiting the use of a hydraulic hammer to minimise noise. Work will run around the clock until Monday, with a nearby main road closed until Tuesday and the A565 interchange at Bonn‑Auerberg also shut for the duration.

The bridge, which carried over 100,000 vehicles daily before being closed in early June due to severe damage, will remain out of service while the Vorlandbrücke is rebuilt. The replacement project is slated for completion by the end of 2028, and the tender for the new construction is expected to be awarded before Christmas.
