Heidelberg food‑truck worker suffers severe burns in gas explosion

A 24‑year‑old employee of a food‑truck in Heidelberg was badly injured on Saturday around 12:15 p.m. when the gas‑powered pizza oven he was near detonated, producing a large flame that caused severe burns. Emergency services treated him on site before a rescue helicopter transferred him to a specialist clinic. The Heidelberg‑South police station has opened an investigation into the workplace accident.

The incident occurred on Im Breitspiel street; no fatalities were reported, and the cause appears to be a malfunction of the oven during startup.
