West Bank: Israeli settlers attack journalist and diplomats
Israeli settlers launched a series of violent attacks across the West Bank during the annual olive harvest, targeting Palestinian farmers, international journalists, and European diplomats.
In the village of Abu Falah, approximately 80 masked settlers attacked Palestinian farmers, setting fire to olive trees and vehicles. During the incident, Heidi Levine, a veteran photojournalist for The Washington Post, was severely assaulted. Despite wearing a clearly marked press vest and helmet, Levine was kicked repeatedly for approximately ten minutes. She sustained serious injuries, including four broken vertebrae, a broken rib, and a deep laceration to her finger that exposed the bone, requiring surgery.
In the village of Taybeh, masked settlers targeted a convoy of European diplomats, including representatives from Belgium, France, and Poland. The group reportedly surrounded diplomatic vehicles, demanded identification, and threw stones, resulting in damage to a Belgian consulate vehicle and an assault on a 78-year-old French mayor.
Reports indicate widespread unrest across at least eight Palestinian villages, with settlers using stones, clubs, and live ammunition. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that at least four people have been killed and over 100 injured since the harvest season began. The Washington Post and the United Nations have called for thorough investigations into these incidents.
