Heilbronn Outdoor Pool Linked to Gastrointestinal Illnesses

In early July, several adults and children reported diarrhea and vomiting after swimming at the Gesundbrunnen outdoor pool in Heilbronn, Baden‑Württemberg, Germany. A visitor claimed baby feces were found in the children’s pool, prompting immediate cleaning, extra chlorination and use of a special cleaning device, although the water was not completely drained.

Subsequent tests by the city health department showed normal water quality parameters. Officials suggested the illnesses might also stem from food‑borne sources, and noted that no surge in gastro‑intestinal cases had been recorded by local health services. The incident has raised questions about hygiene practices at the historic pool, which dates back to the 1960s.
