Heimlich maneuver saves children in separate Argentine emergencies

Two separate incidents in Argentina highlight the life-saving effectiveness of the Heimlich maneuver during choking emergencies.

In General Pinto, Soledad Roldán, a police officer, successfully performed the abdominal compression procedure on a young child who had swallowed a piece of plastic. The intervention occurred at a local shop after the child's mother sought immediate assistance.

In Moreno, firefighters responded to an emergency involving an eight-month-old infant suffering from an airway obstruction. Sub-officer Carlos Nadur and his team performed the maneuver, which allowed the baby to breathe and cry again after several minutes of respiratory distress. The infant was subsequently referred to Garrahan Hospital for follow-up care.
