Heineken Netherlands launches electric beer hub in Wijlre

Heineken Nederland opened a new logistics hub at the Brand brewery in Wijlre to cut traffic movements in South‑Limburg. A 30,000‑litre electric tank‑beer truck transports empty tanks from ’s‑Hertogenbosch to Wijlre once or twice a week, where a 10,000‑litre electric delivery truck, built specifically for Limburg, refills local hospitality venues via an over‑pumping system. The hub serves bars and restaurants that run Brand draft beer on tap, reducing the number of trips required and eliminating diesel‑powered transport.

The project supports Heineken’s target of a fully emission‑free vehicle fleet by 2030. Carl van der Wielen, Heineken’s tank‑beer manager, said the hub demonstrates how “redundant transport can be eliminated and remaining movements electrified,” while also promoting a shift from bottled‑or‑keg beer to bulk tank delivery, which lowers packaging waste and preserves beer freshness.
