Heino dispute escalates over gender-neutral language in film title
A dispute regarding gender-neutral language in a television project has escalated between German singer Heino and various parties. The conflict originated when director and producer Stefanie Mayer changed the title of the planned TV film “Die Rettungsschwimmer vom Wörthersee” to “Die Rettungsschwimmer:innen vom Wörthersee” during production.
Heino, who has long opposed gender-sensitive spelling, engaged legal counsel to prohibit the production from using any material featuring his likeness or voice. Following this legal threat, Mayer decided to revert to the original title to ensure the project's success, though she maintained her personal stance on gender-neutral language.
The situation expanded after weather presenter Jörg Kachelmann made comments on X regarding the matter. In response, Heino’s manager, Helmut Werner, criticized Kachelmann in an Instagram video, claiming Kachelmann’s career is “hardly existent anymore.” Heino expressed satisfaction with the resolution, stating he must stand by his convictions.
