Malatya flooding causes damage to homes and apricot harvests

Heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding have caused significant damage in the Hekimhan district of Malatya. Intense downpours lasting approximately two hours caused local streams, including Uma, Sarıl, and Kızıldere, to overflow.

The flooding impacted several neighborhoods, including Kocaözü, Kurşunlu, and Söğüt. Reported damages include the flooding of homes, warehouses, and barns, as well as vehicles being swept away or trapped in mud. Livestock in flooded barns were also affected.

Agricultural production has suffered, specifically the apricot harvest. The timing of the storm coincided with the harvesting period, leading to substantial damage to apricot trees and crops in orchards and display areas.

Emergency response teams, including AFAD, the District Gendarmerie Command, the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and Malatya Metropolitan Municipality water and sewage units, have been deployed to the affected regions to conduct recovery work.
