Helldivers 2 faces review bombing following anti-cheat update

Helldivers 2 has experienced a wave of negative Steam reviews, causing its recent review score to drop to “Mixed” following a significant technical update. The change, implemented by Arrowhead Game Studios in update 7.2.0, replaced the GameGuard anti-cheat system with Easy Anti-Cheat.

The transition rendered many cosmetic mods unusable. While these mods do not affect gameplay mechanics, frustrated players responded with a surge of negative feedback. Arrowhead Game Studios defended the decision, stating the move is intended to protect players from modifications that provide unfair advantages or negatively impact others.

In response to ongoing technical challenges, Arrowhead released hotfix 1.007.201 on October 22. This emergency patch specifically addresses stability issues, including a crash that occurred when players joined or left a squad. The studio also acknowledged several known issues involving weapon labeling, gameplay bugs, and visual glitches that are currently under development.
