Hellenic Geological Survey launches digital application for Greek volcanoes
The Hellenic Geological Survey (Hellenic Geological Survey - EAMGME) has released a new digital application titled ‘Geotreasures’ to showcase the volcanic wealth of Greece. Accessible through the Geoportal, the application uses interactive maps and detailed information to highlight the country’s geological heritage.
The tool covers key volcanic sites including Santorini, Nisyros, Milos, and Methana. It aims to provide citizens and visitors with insights into the geological evolution of the Aegean, volcanic rocks, geothermal activity, and the natural processes that shaped the region.
Central to this landscape is the South Aegean Volcanic Arc, one of Europe’s most significant active volcanic systems. The application seeks to bring scientific knowledge closer to the public, serving as a resource for research, education, and the preservation of Greece’s geological identity.
